Teachers' Supply Closet

About Us

Our mission and vision.
Our mission is to serve the educational and creative needs of children in the greater Charleston area by providing a unique means to offer free merchandise, donated from businesses and individuals, for teachers to use in their classrooms. Our goal is for every child in the Tri- County area to have the school supplies they need to succeed in school.

The need.
More than 21,000 Charleston County students are on the free or reduced lunch program, and in some schools, 100 percent of their students receive free lunch. In 2006, the Teachers' Supply Closet was created to help make a big difference to students of limited means whose families do not have the money for school supplies, as well as their teachers, who receive a supplies stipend of only $200 per year from the South Carolina Department of Education. The teachers usually spend an average of $1,000 of their own money to purchase classroom supplies that the stipend doesn't cover.

What we do.
Teachers' Supply Closet is a non-profit organization that provides free school supplies to teachers in the Greater Charleston area who work at schools that have at least 70 percent of their students on the free or reduced price meal program. To stock our store, we accept donations of new and gently used office, school and art supplies, excess inventory, slightly damaged merchandise, outdated and tradeshow products, and make everything available to teachers for use in the classroom.
