WHAT WE DO

Teachers' Supply Closet (TSC) is a nonprofit organization that provides free school supplies to teachers in the Tri-County area who work at schools where 69% or more of the students are on the free or reduced meals program.

HISTORY

The formulation of what is now the Teachers’ Supply Closet (TSC) began in 2005 with the idea of a “free teachers’ supply store” which received an overwhelming response of support from community leaders. The TSC Board was formally organized in 2006. Two prominent community service organizations, the Charleston (SC) Chapters of the Links, Incorporated and Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated eagerly embraced the idea and rendered their support by donating seed money and pledging their continued financial and volunteer support, becoming founders of the organization.

TSC is one of 40+ Kids In Need Foundation (KINF) Resource Centers. KINF partners with teachers in underserved schools to ensure students are prepared to learn in the classroom, providing essential school supplies and other badly needed resources.

In 2007, TSC became a 501(c)(3) organization.

TSC opened its doors in February 2009 as the only “free” school supply store in South Carolina. Its first location was inside the Ashley Landing Shopping Plaza in Charleston, South Carolina. The store originally served six elementary schools in the Charleston County School District. TSC currently reaches across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties, serving 58 schools!

Celebrating 14 years of service to the Tri-County area!
